Buckminster Blog May 8th Opening day

Just a quick update for opening day at the National Centre.

We still have contractors on site tidying up the final elements of the building work but we opened the doors as planned. The weather was pretty grim with a chilly 8 degrees on the clock but with the feel of much lower temperatures due to the strong north easterly blow. A number of members turned up during the course of the day for a look at the site and the facilities but with little desire to fly, coffee drinking being a far more agreeable pastime given the conditions. Then at 6.00pm local member Dave Jones arrived with a couple of electric helicopters in the car and put in the first ‘official’ flight at BMFA Buckminster. Dave soon succumbed to cold fingers so it was a literally a ‘flying visit’ but having joined as a season ticket holder I am sure Dave will be back as soon as the weather warms up.

With the seeding of the main runway complete the main requirement (as much as I hate to say it) is a few days of rain to get it going…….of course followed by plenty of sunshine. I look forward to seeing some of you at Buckminster over the coming weeks.
